Throughout the past years, numerous professional and amateur clubs, leagues and NGOs have initiated programmes facilitating the participation of refugees in society through sports.
Against this backdrop, the programme “Welcome to Football“ invites you to come together and discuss: Which practices and approaches have been successful? Which challenges have yet to be met?
This invitation is directed to all actors invested or interested in working towards the participation of refugees in and beyond sports.
The online workshops “Willkommen im Fußball” meets “Football Welcomes” on October 6th, 2020 and “Creating spaces: Refugee girls and women in sports” on October 7th, 2020 will be held in English.

“Willkommen im Fußball” meets “Football Welcomes”

Topic:
Numerous football clubs and other football organisations in Germany and the Uk have been welcoming and supporting refugees in the past years.
In Germany the programme “Welcome to Football” [in German: “Willkommen im Fußball”] started in 2015: Within its framework 23 local alliances support the participation of refugees in and beyond football. Each “Welcome to Football”-alliance involves a professional football club from the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2. In 2019, “Football Welcomes”, a programme with a similar approach, started in the U.K. in 5 locations.
Also, the German as well as the British Football Associations have taken initiative for the inclusion of refugees.
This virtual workshop aims at gaining insights into the activities of British and German programmes and initiatives, creating space for an exchange of ideas and experiences across borders.

Creating spaces: Refugee girls and women in sports

Topic:
In 2020, most team sports are organized by two gender categories and often activate more men than women, more boys than girls. What does it take for sports programmes to work critically with and around those gendered norms in sports? Which measures have proven successful and which obstacles most persistent – with special regards to the involvement of refugee girls and women in football?
This workshop aims at an exchange of ideas, practices and contacts from bottom-up to top-down level on an international scale.
