What data do we collect and why?

Data collection when visiting our website
To provide you with a high-quality user experience, we collect relevant data about the way you use our website on www.dkjs.de (in so-called “server log files”). This includes information on the date and time of access to the website, as well on the devices and operating systems used to access the service. Furthermore, we collect data about search terms, entry/exit pages and duration of visits on our website. This information is collected in the form of IP addresses, which, however, are processed using the “AnonymizeIP” extension, which truncates IP addresses before they are processed further. The data in the server log files are stored separately from all other data personal data we may collect. To perform this analysis, cookies are saved on your computer. Cookies are small text files sent by our server when you visit our website and temporarily stored on your hard drive. The next time you visit, your browser will send the received cookie back to our server.

Data collection when subscribing to the GCYF Infoservice
Our website provides the opportunity to subscribe to the Infoservice of the German Children and Youth Foundation. To be able to send you updates, we need the following personal data from you: first name, last name, institution/company, department/function, German state, email address and at least one topic (Early start in education, Success in school & all-day school, Youth & future, Educational landscapes, Vocational schools, Young refugees, Digital education, Cultural education) on which you would like to receive information. Moreover, to protect you against the misuse of your personal data, we store your IP addresses and log the time when you register for the service and when you confirm your subscription. When processing your subscription request, we use the double opt-in method. You will only receive Infoservice updates if you reconfirm your request by clicking on a link in an email you will receive from us. You can unsubscribe from receiving Infoservice updates anytime via our website. In the event this method should not work for technical reasons, we will unsubscribe you if you send an email request to veranstaltung[at]dkjs.de.

Data collection when subscribing to the newsletter
Our website provides the opportunity to subscribe to various newsletters. To be able to send you the German Children and Youth Foundation newsletter, the “Bildungslandschaften” newsletter, the “Willkommen bei Freunden” newsletter, the “Qualität vor Ort” newsletter, or the “OPENION” newsletter, we need you name and email address. When processing subscription requests, we use the double opt-in method. You will only receive the newsletter if you reconfirm your request by clicking on a link in an email you will receive from us. You can unsubscribe from our newsletters anytime by using the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the newsletter or by using the website. If you want to contact us via the contact form on our website, we collect your name and your email address. We need this data to be able to answer your request.

Data collection when making an online donation
We use the data you provide when making an online donation to process and manage your donation and for informational purposes. The contact details you share (first name, last name, street, number, postal code, city, phone number, email address) are used to send you a donation receipt, if necessary.

Your email address is used to send you a confirmation email regarding your intended donation and to reach out to you regarding any questions we may have when processing your donation. Furthermore, we use your email address to inform you about how your donation is used, about similar education projects and additional ways to support the German Children and Youth Foundation. We may also use it to invite you to GCYF-sponsored events. You may object at any time to our using of your email address for purposes other than strictly processing your donation.

Matomo
Our website uses Matomo, a web-analysis software owned by InnoCraft Inc., for statistical analysis of visitor accesses. The tool collects data about the devices used to access our website. This means it collects information on the type of device and operating systems, search terms, click paths, as well as on the date and time of access. The information collected is stored by the service provider on a server located in Germany, to which only the German Children and Youth Foundation has access. We use Matomo in combination with the “AnonymizeIP” extension, which means that IP addresses are truncated before being processed further and cannot be directly associated with individuals. The IP address sent to us from your browser via Matomo is stored separately from all other personal data we may collect. Matomo is an open source project. The videos shown on www.dkjs.de are embedded with the help of YouTube, an internet video platform owned by Google LLC. As a result of this integration, YouTube will receive information regarding the fact that your browser has accessed the relevant page of our website. If you are logged into your YouTube account, YouTube will be able to directly associate the visit to our website with your account. This website uses the web-analysis service Matomo of Innocraft Inc. to analyse visitor accesses on this website. Innocraft Inc. is headquartered in New Zealand, which is covered by a decision by the European Commission establishing that New Zealand ensures an adequate level of data protection.
