Youth Bank: more than money
Youth Bank is a unique programme run by young people for the benefit of young people, providing know-how and funding for local youth-led projects. In most cases, young people need help – including financial support – to get their ideas started, be it a band competition, an art project, setting up a youth newspaper or something completely different. Often, they do not need much money, but in the most cases, they need it quickly without the usual long application procedures. Youth Bank provides financing up to 400 Euros in a quick and un-bureaucratic manner.
Most young people prefer to discuss their project ideas with their peers. Youth Banks offers more than just funding – they ensure the projects are well-prepared. They determine the amount of support needed, identify potential and possible weaknesses, establish contacts with similar projects, and train project leaders how to document how the money was spent. Once the Youth Bank is convinced that the project is worthy of funding, it makes the money available. Experience shows how important this support for youth projects is.
There are currently Youth Banks in cities from Flensburg to Memmingen, from Bonn to Cottbus, and the number is growing. Youth Banks have become a central point of contact for young people who want to start their own projects. Since the start of the programme in 2003, Youth Banks has provided guidance and financial support to several hundred projects.
